Digital Transformation Lab Engineer

RIT Dubai is establishing an interdisciplinary innovation lab in digital transformation to support faculty in computing and engineering curricula and to provide a platform for research and training in the area of digital transformation and intelligent systems. The hardware and software capabilities of the lab will be used to implement use cases drawn from real-life problems to help organizations transform to digital operation. The lab aims to bring together experts across the boundaries of wireless 5G technologies, data sciences, smart cities, IoT, mobile applications, data analytics, AI, cloud technologies, computing security, and beyond, from both the university and the industry/government.

Job Summary:

The department of Electrical Engineering and Computing Sciences is currently seeking applications from exceptional candidates for the Digital Transformation lab engineer position with a strong commitment to education, training, and student support. The applicant must have established a strong record of industrial/governmental experience in developing and managing the delivery of digital smart solutions. The lab engineer is expected to work with lab constituents to identify use cases in digital transformation, interact with industry, government, and semi-government entities, identify the use-cases requirements, manage the design and delivery of the use-cases, and lead a training program for students and professionals. It is also desired that the lab engineer will be able to teach some computing labs and provide support to faculty and students in their computing courses. The selected candidate is expected to start ASAP in Dubai.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

· Manage the digital transformation lab and ensure the achievement of its operational KPIs

· Reach out to the industry, government, semi-government, and solution providers and work with faculty to identify use cases that support the goals and objectives of the lab

· Manage the requirements, design and delivery of the digital transformation lab projects

· Engage with hardware and software vendors to equip the digital transformation lab with instruments, devices, smart kits, and software to support the use cases and training programs

· Develop training programs in digital transformation for students and professionals and teach some of the courses

· Facilitate and support research by faculty

· Teach lab courses in computing (information technologies /computing security)

· Support students’ extracurricular, club activities, and competitions

· Other functions as required by the department head or lab coordinator

Communication/Interpersonal Relationships

This job requires interaction with:

· Department Head – for reporting, scheduling, and setting expectations.

· Faculty – for alignment on instructions for the computing and the digital transformation labs and for working closely on acquiring new equipment and software.

· Students – through training and teaching the labs and to answer their questions and support their lab needs and extracurricular activities.

· Vendors – for ordering new lab equipment, devices, solutions and services.

· IT Department – for alignment on software and computing resources

Responsibility for Health/Safety of others:

This position has responsibility for the health and/or safety of others. Responsibilities include providing students with instructions on safety and proper use of equipment, monitoring their lab activities, and making sure electricity and signal radiation are used according to the safety rules set by the vendors. Lab equipment must be maintained according to vendor’s recommendations.

Required Qualifications:

·         Masters’ degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field.

·         Experience in building and managing digital smart solution systems

·         Experience in cloud management, orchestration, and applications

·         Industry certifications in computing and digital transformation

·         Previous teaching experience in information technology, networking, and computing security is preferred

·         Excellent communication skills
